DECEMBER 2007: TIME FOR A NEW ADVENTURE IN ENGLISH COMPOSITION

On December 15th., 2007, My students and I started a new writing adventure in our English Composition course at the CURNE-UASD, San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic.  Everything started after sharing with Professor and published author Bartolo García Molina from the Spanish School.  When he heard that my students were doing some research and following the process of writing in the classroom and at home, he suggested me to have them read their essays in front of an audience and to bind the essays in a dossier for the college library. Since that time, we have been celebrating a Public Reading of Compositions every year and enriching a dossier for the library. This activity is held completely in English and includes an MC, an audience that speaks the English language, and a singer. In the Second Public Reading of Compositions, we had an international guest speaker, Dr. Meg Petersen from the Plymouth Writing Project who gave us a mini-conference about writing.

Here are some images about THE FIRST PUBLIC READING OF COMPOSITIONS

Professor Manuel Batista was our Master of Ceremony and since that day, we appointed him as our official MC.

Right after the ceremony, the essays are posted in a bulletin board for everyone who speaks English to read
